"Am I Going to Be OK?"

An honest 5-minute self-check of your retirement. Rate each statement from 1 (not at all true) to 5 (completely true). Go with your first answer.

1. Income I can count on. If the market dropped 30% the year I retire, my monthly income would still cover my basic bills.
2. Taxes. I know roughly how much of my 401(k) and IRA will go to taxes, and I have a plan to keep it as low as I legally can.
3. Tax buckets. I have money in more than one tax bucket (taxable, tax-deferred and tax-free) so I can choose where each withdrawal comes from.
4. Social Security. I know the best age for me (and my spouse) to claim, and why.
5. My spouse. If one of us passed away, the other would have enough income, even after losing one Social Security check.
6. Health and care. I have a plan for paying for long-term care that doesn't mean draining our savings.
7. Required withdrawals. I know when required withdrawals start and how they could push up my taxes and Medicare premiums.
8. A written plan. I have a written retirement income plan, updated in the last 12 months, that I actually understand.
